Registering a business in Jamaica adds legitimacy and allows you to open a corporate bank account. The Companies Office of Jamaica (COJ) Electronic Business Registration Form (eBRF) makes it possible to do this from home.

Step 1: Name Search
Before anything, use the COJ portal to search if your desired business name is already taken. Reserving a name costs a small fee.

Step 2: Create a COJ Account
Sign up on the COJ eBRF portal. You will need a valid TRN and government-issued ID.
Step 3: Complete the eBRF
You can register a Sole Trader (BN1 form) or a Limited Liability Company (BRF1 form). The form will require your business address, nature of business, and director details.
Step 4: Payment
Pay the registration fee online using a Visa or Mastercard. A Sole Trader registration costs roughly $3,000 JMD, while a Company costs around $25,000 JMD. You will receive your digital certificate via email!
